Environment data buoy
A smart data buoy will be measuring changes in the climate along the Baltic Sea coast.
1. Along the buoy's anchor line, an elevator basket is running which easily can be equipped with a unique combination of different sensors, adapted for measuring the water's temperature, salt level, chlorophyll level, muddiness etc at different depths.
2. Collected data is sent to the mainland using GPRS over the 3G net. The same technique can be used to send out reprogramming and updates to the buoys.
3. The buoy's batteries are charged partly by solar cells and partly by a miniature wave power plant.
4. To avoid having the sensors grown over with algae ...
5. ...they have built a "garage" in the top inside of the buoy, which is filled with a clear and environmentally friendly oil. Every time the elevator basket is parking in the garage, the sensors are automatically being cleansed from algae growth.
