Artsafe
1. A small patch on the back of a painting ...
2. ... contains an extremely thin motion detector and a RFID transmitter (RadioFrequency IDentification).
3. Every 10-90 seconds the RFID transmitter is sending a short confirmation signal to a local receiver.
4. If anyone was to poke at or carry away with the painting, the motion detector will notice it and the transmitter will start sending reports every second making it possible to trace the painting's location inside the building. The system can communicate through Bluetooth, WLAN or SMS and therefore it is possible to send an alarm even from a long distance away. ArtSafe can also be equipped with a minimal passive GPS which will be activated upon movement.
5. If the painting however is being handled by an employee, the alarm is triggered by the movement but the system will also recognize the RFID-tag in his/her ID-card. As a result of this the alarm will not go off.
